Each one of us loads the Google Search Box everyday with different kinds of queries to seek the relevant answers. Most of the time we get the information that we want but at many a times it does happen that Google shows totally irrelevant pages. Google does its best to provide the best information but somehow we are not able to make its effective use as some of the features are still unknown to us.

Following are the useful Google Search Tips for the users so that next time you make a Google search, you will find the exact results:

Make use of the right words – As Google is not human and therefore cannot decipher every phrase that you may use, it is good to type those words in your query that a web page would be using. Google by matching those words will then show the accurate results.

Short Query using descriptive words – Your query should describe what information you are looking forward to. Long phrases may divert Google and may give poor results. For example, you are looking for restaurant that offers different cuisines, and you type Restaurant offering Spanish, Thai, Chinese and Indian food. To get more relevant results, you can simply type Multi cuisine Restaurant along with the name of the place.

Pay no heed to capitalization- As Google is not case sensitive, you need not waste your time in writing search query with capital words. Write whatever you want to find in lower case and you will get the same results. It also doesn’t take into account words such as in, of, the, and, to, etc.

Google as a dictionary- If you wish to find the meaning of a word, just write define followed by the word and you will get the definition.

Do Calculations: Google can solve your mathematical problems as well if you type the same in the search box and click Enter. It will compute and present the solution.

Image Search: You can come across thousands of pictures if you click the IMAGE link above the Search box and then type your query.

Google Maps will help you find a city and its exact location- You can easily find a city by tying its name and Google will show its map, driving directions and lot more information about the city that you would like to have.

Use the “I’m Feeling Tab – If you wish to directly go to the top web page while making a search, this feature on Google home page will let you do this. Type the search query, click this tab and come across the relevant website.

Add quotes to phrases for exact results- If you wish to get the results containing the phrase as it is, then use quotation marks. It will eliminate many unwanted results and provide the most relevant ones.

Obtain information about the Weather: Type the city name and write weather to come across the weather details of the city

OR Operator – You can use the OR (written in uppercase) to search for information for one or more keywords. To say for example, you are confused, out of Medical College or Medical Institution, which will give the right results. Here you can type Medical College OR Medical Institution to obtain the accurate results.

Synonym Operator (~) – Called the Tilde character (~), it is used to make a search that will show pages containing the keyword along with its synonyms. Example a search for ~cereals will show pages that use cereal grass, corn, food grain, grain, wheat, etc

Language Translation- Google provides this service where you can translate text or even a web page from one language to another by using the Language Tool given under the “More” options on the Google Homepage.

These are only some of the Tips to get better search results on Google. We will come with more in our next write-up. Till then, utilize these.
